Mechanical Engineering Project Lead

A respected engineering consulting organization is expanding its mechanical engineering team and is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineering Project Lead to help deliver innovative building system solutions for complex commercial and institutional facilities. What You Will Do
- Lead the mechanical design and engineering of HVAC and building systems for commercial, healthcare, education, laboratory, and institutional facilities.
- Design mechanical building systems by developing technical solutions, completing engineering analyses, and producing construction-ready documentation in compliance with applicable regulations.
- Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, electrical engineers, and other project stakeholders to deliver integrated design solutions.
- Review drawings, specifications, equipment selections, and technical documentation for quality, accuracy, and constructability.
- Evaluate contractor submittals, shop drawings, and product data during construction.
- Participate in client meetings, site visits, and design reviews while serving as a trusted technical resource.
- Conduct technical analyses, evaluate long-term system performance and costs, perform building assessments, and prepare project documentation.
- Assist in coordinating project execution by contributing to timeline development, budget planning, and staffing needs.
- Mentor junior engineers and designers while promoting technical excellence and continuous learning.
- Utilize modern engineering software and emerging technologies to improve design quality and project efficiency.
- Contribute to successful project execution by supporting quality control efforts while meeting established timelines and financial objectives.
Required Qualifications
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited engineering program preferred, with equivalent combinations of technical education and qualifying industry experience considered.
- Six to nine years of progressive experience providing mechanical engineering services within the built environment.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) credential required.
- Commitment to obtaining Professional Engineer (PE) licensure within two years if not already licensed.
- Experience designing HVAC and mechanical systems for commercial or institutional buildings.
- Strong knowledge of applicable building codes, engineering standards, and mechanical system design principles.
- Hands-on experience with professional software used for engineering analysis, system design, and technical documentation.
- Excellent communication, organization, and client relationship skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
- Experience supporting healthcare, higher education, research, or other technically complex facilities.
- LEED Green Associate, ASHRAE HFDP or HBDP, ASPE, IES, or similar professional credentials.
- Experience mentoring engineers and coordinating multidisciplinary project teams.
- Familiarity with BIM workflows and collaborative project delivery methods.
