Corporate Safety Director – Heavy Civil Construction

Location: On Site in Phoenix, AZ

An established and growing heavy civil construction organization is seeking an experienced safety leader to help drive the next phase of its operational growth. This is an opportunity to influence company-wide safety strategy while remaining closely connected to field operations. The successful candidate will partner directly with executive leadership, project teams, and field personnel to strengthen an already successful safety program while helping prepare the organization for continued expansion across multiple states.

This Role Offers

  • Competitive base salary plus performance-based bonus opportunity.
  • Company vehicle or vehicle allowance.
  • Comprehensive benefits package and retirement program.
  • Opportunity to build and lead a growing corporate safety organization.
  • Stable company experiencing significant growth with a strong project backlog.
  • Collaborative culture where safety is viewed as a core business value.

What You Will Do

  • Lead the company's overall construction safety strategy across multiple active projects.
  • Foster a proactive, field-driven safety culture through coaching, mentoring, and visible leadership.
  • Travel regularly to project sites to perform safety audits, inspections, and field engagement.
  • Partner with project managers, superintendents, and field leadership to identify risks before work begins.
  • Develop and improve corporate safety programs, policies, and standard operating procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA requirements and applicable client safety standards.
  • Lead incident investigations and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Coordinate company safety training initiatives and monitor employee certification compliance.
  • Oversee safety metrics, workers' compensation trends, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Present safety updates to leadership while driving accountability throughout the organization.
  • Support preconstruction planning by identifying operational risks and recommending mitigation strategies.
  • Help establish and develop a future team of Safety Coordinators as the organization continues to grow.

What You Bring

  • Construction safety leadership experience within heavy civil, infrastructure, or self-performing construction environments.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trust and influence field operations through coaching rather than enforcement alone.
  • Experience developing safety programs, audits, compliance initiatives, and employee training.
  • Comfortable traveling approximately 25 percent to project locations.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with executives, project leadership, and field personnel.
  • Experience reviewing safety plans, supporting project execution, and improving overall safety performance.
  • Ability to analyze safety data and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Experience with workers' compensation management and incident response is preferred.
  • CSP, ASP, CHST, OSHA certifications, CPR Instructor credentials, or similar certifications are valued but not required.
