Electro-Mechanical Technician
Location: San Francisco, CA, On Site
A high growth robotics company is expanding its onsite technical team in San Francisco and is seeking a Electro-Mechanical Technician who enjoys solving real world hardware challenges in a fast-moving environment. This role offers the chance to contribute to cutting-edge self-operating technologies as they transition from the build phase into broader, real-world implementation. The right person will be energized by hands on problem solving, close partnership with engineering, and the chance to help improve the reliability of systems that need to perform consistently in demanding conditions.
What You Will Do
- Build, inspect, test, and maintain robotic and electromechanical systems used in active deployment environments.
- Ensure autonomous systems remain operational by supporting assembly, troubleshooting issues, performing calibration, and handling maintenance repairs.
- Investigate mechanical, electrical, and controls issues using schematics, meters, logs, and structured testing.
- Support sensor, motor, actuator, and subsystem configuration while helping validate overall system performance.
- Document failure trends and service learnings that improve uptime as deployments expand.
- Partner with engineers to refine assemblies, maintenance routines, and production readiness.
- Support onsite validation and occasional remote or field troubleshooting when systems need fast resolution.
- Help create clear procedures, test records, and technical documentation that improve repeatability as the team scales.
What the Team Is Looking For
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience working with robotics, automation equipment, industrial machinery, automotive systems, or related electromechanical platforms.
- Strong mechanical assembly and troubleshooting ability.
- Comfort reading schematics and using common electrical diagnostic tools such as multimeters and oscilloscopes.
- Experience working with motors, sensors, wiring, controls, and related hardware.
- Detail oriented approach to testing, service quality, and documentation.
- Basic Linux familiarity, including command line usage, log review, and system level troubleshooting.
- Able to work onsite in San Francisco and contribute in a highly collaborative, fast paced setting.
Helpful Background
- Exposure to ROS, CAN bus, or industrial communication protocols.
- Experience with 3D printing, rapid prototyping, or light CAD work.
- Background in production scaling, manufacturing support, or high uptime technical environments.
What Will Help You Succeed
- You are naturally curious and like understanding how systems behave in the real world.
- You stay calm while troubleshooting and can narrow down issues methodically.
- You enjoy taking ownership of technical problems instead of handing them off.
- You are comfortable in a startup environment where priorities can shift quickly.
