Mechanical Commissioning Project Manager - Data Center

Key Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical commissioning activities throughout the project lifecycle, from design review and equipment startup through integrated systems testing and final owner turnover.
- Develop and manage commissioning plans, schedules, documentation, issue logs, and project reporting while coordinating closely with construction and engineering teams.
- Oversee functional testing and performance verification of mission-critical mechanical systems including chillers, cooling towers, chilled water systems, pumps, AHUs, CRAC/CRAH units, and associated controls.
- Lead comprehensive system validation efforts to confirm equipment functionality, backup operations, automatic transition sequences, and overall performance across routine and contingency scenarios.
- Coordinate factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing, startup activities, and commissioning milestones with equipment manufacturers, contractors, and project stakeholders.
- Verify proper installation quality, testing procedures, TAB activities, and compliance with applicable industry standards, project specifications, and owner requirements.
- Collaborate with electrical, controls, automation, and construction teams to resolve technical issues, mitigate project risks, and maintain commissioning schedules.
- Serve as the primary client-facing commissioning lead by facilitating meetings, communicating project status, and delivering clear technical documentation throughout project execution.
- Promote a strong safety culture while supporting commissioning activities on active construction sites and ensuring adherence to established site safety protocols.
- Support project closeout by delivering complete commissioning documentation, training coordination, and operational readiness packages that enable a seamless facility turnover.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Construction Management, or related technical discipline preferred. Equivalent industry experience will also be considered.
- Minimum seven years of experience supporting mechanical commissioning, HVAC construction, mechanical project management, or mission-critical facilities.
- At least three years leading commissioning projects or managing multidisciplinary commissioning teams.
- Previous experience supporting data center projects or other highly regulated mission-critical facilities including hospitals, semiconductor manufacturing, pharmaceutical production, or similar environments.
- Strong understanding of Levels 1 through 5 commissioning processes and Integrated Systems Testing.
- Demonstrated expertise with mission-critical cooling systems including chillers, cooling towers, chilled water systems, CRAC and CRAH equipment, pumps, AHUs, and associated control systems.
- Working knowledge of ASHRAE TC 9.9 guidance, International Mechanical Code, and TAB standards including AABC and NEBB methodologies.
- Proficiency with construction project management software and standard business productivity tools.
- Strong communication, organization, and client relationship management skills.
- Ability to travel extensively and work full-time on active construction sites.
Preferred Experience
- Professional commissioning certifications such as BCxP, CxA, ACG, AABC, or NEBB.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Background providing independent project oversight or building performance consulting services.
- Background contributing to the delivery of large-scale digital infrastructure or other high-availability facility projects.
