Director of Business Development

Our client is a specialized advanced materials and manufacturing organization entering an exciting new stage of commercial growth. After spending the last several years strengthening its operational foundation, the business is ready to accelerate customer acquisition, expand its market presence, and build a more proactive sales engine. This is a high impact opportunity for a true hunter and builder who wants to create the playbook, open new markets, develop productive sales channels, and play a meaningful role in scaling a specialized business. The successful leader will have significant visibility with senior executives, broad influence across the organization, and the potential to grow into a future VP of Sales or broader commercial executive role.

This Role Offers:

  • Opportunity to help scale a specialized business with an ambitious multi year growth strategy and substantial untapped commercial potential.
  • High visibility with senior leadership and the ability to become a key commercial partner during an important stage of the company's evolution.
  • A hands on, entrepreneurial environment where initiative is valued and strong performers can quickly expand their responsibilities.
  • Meaningful additional earning potential through performance based commission and equity participation.
  • Remote, nationwide flexibility, with significant time spent directly with customers, partners, and industry contacts.
  • A clear opportunity to demonstrate the leadership capabilities required for future VP of Sales or broader commercial executive responsibility.

Focus:

  • Build a new customer pipeline from the ground up, prioritizing net new revenue and repeatable growth over inherited account maintenance.
  • Sell specialty chemical and material consumables into technically demanding manufacturing environments, translating customer process needs into commercial opportunities.
  • Develop direct relationships with manufacturers while expanding a productive network of independent representatives and channel partners.
  • Identify underserved territories, applications, and customer segments, then create practical market entry plans that improve coverage and revenue potential.
  • Own opportunities from prospecting and technical discovery through commercial negotiation, close, and long term account development.
  • Partner closely with chemistry, applications, operations, and manufacturing teams to align customer requirements with feasible product and production solutions.
  • Bring field intelligence back to internal teams, including competitive activity, customer feedback, application trends, and emerging demand signals.
  • Help shape go to market priorities, positioning, lead generation efforts, trade show activity, and other commercial programs in a developing sales organization.
  • Take broad ownership for business performance, operating comfortably across sales, channel development, customer strategy, and cross functional execution.
  • Travel extensively to customer sites, partner locations, industry events, and company facilities across the United States and internationally.

Skill Set:

  • Proven hunter and builder with a record of creating new customers, opening markets, and generating new revenue rather than primarily managing an established book.
  • Experience selling chemical or material consumables such as CMP products, slurries, cleaning compounds, semiconductor chemicals, optical consumables, or closely related specialty materials.
  • Technical credibility to engage engineers, chemists, operations leaders, and other sophisticated stakeholders in manufacturing environments.
  • High energy, initiative, commercial judgment, and comfort creating structure in an evolving commercial organization.
  • Ability to work across functions, make progress through ambiguity, and take ownership beyond a traditional sales job description.
  • Willingness and ability to travel approximately 75 percent, including domestic and international trips.
  • Leadership capacity and ambition to grow into a future VP of Sales or broader commercial executive position.
  • Experience in semiconductor, advanced materials, industrial manufacturing, or another technical market where consultative selling is essential.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, engineering, chemistry, material science, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, presentation, relationship building, and influencing skills.
