Product Engineer – Consumer Devices

Location: On site in New Brunswick, NJ and Greater Philly area

Our client is building a growing portfolio of consumer hardware products and is looking for an engineer who wants to shape devices from idea to launch. This is a high impact role for someone who enjoys solving real world performance challenges, working closely with cross functional partners, and turning concepts into polished, production ready products. You will help guide the engineering direction for new devices, influence how they are built, and play a visible part in bringing innovative products to market.

This Role Offers

  • Competitive base compensation plus bonus potential
  • Comprehensive health coverage, retirement benefits, and paid time off
  • A collaborative environment with strong visibility across product, design, quality, and operations
  • The opportunity to own meaningful hardware development work in a growing product category

Focus

  • Lead design of everyday consumer devices from early concepts through launch readiness
  • Convert product briefs into manufacturable assemblies, mechanisms, and performance targets
  • Evaluate airflow, heat, materials, and power related tradeoffs to improve device function
  • Build prototypes, run bench testing, and translate findings into design revisions
  • Create validation strategies covering function, reliability, environmental exposure, and life cycle use
  • Partner with external manufacturing teams to support DFM, pilot builds, and scale up
  • Investigate field and lab issues using structured troubleshooting and root cause methods
  • Work across product, design, quality, regulatory, and operations teams to bring new devices to market

Skill Set

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering discipline
  • 5 or more years of experience in consumer hardware, device engineering, or new product development
  • Strong CAD capability, ideally with SolidWorks or a similar 3D design platform
  • Hands-on experience with prototyping, testing, and product validation
  • Background working on functional hardware rather than packaging only
  • Understanding of manufacturability, supplier collaboration, and production ramp support
  • Comfort working with products that involve heat, power, or other regulated design considerations
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical groups

Preferred Background

  • Experience with small consumer appliances, fragrance related devices, air care products, or adjacent hardware categories
  • Exposure to validation planning, regulated product requirements, or reliability focused design work
  • Experience supporting overseas or third-party manufacturing partners
