CNC Mold Technician

Location: On-site in Wilmington, DE & Greater Philadelphia Area

Schedule & Pay: Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM • $30 – $45 per hour (flexible for exceptional experience)

Join a well-capitalized manufacturer that produces precision plastic components for medical, consumer, and industrial markets. The plant is investing in new equipment and talent to keep pace with record demand, and this role is critical to maintaining world-class uptime on a fleet of high-cavitation injection molds. You will work shoulder-to-shoulder with a seasoned team of toolmakers and machinists who value craftsmanship, safety, and continuous improvement.

What You’ll Do

  • Perform tear-down, cleaning, repair, and re-assembly of multi-cavity production molds to ensure reliable, repeatable performance.
  • Set up and operate CNC mills, lathes, and grinders to fabricate or re-cut cores, cavities, slides, and ancillary tooling as needed.
  • Diagnose tooling wear or failure using precision measurement equipment; implement corrective actions that eliminate root causes and extend mold life.
  • Read and interpret complex blueprints, CAD drawings, and GD&T call-outs to hold micron-level tolerances on critical features.
  • Collaborate with Process Engineering to optimize cycle times, cooling layouts, and part ejection strategies.
  • Build fixtures, end-of-arm tooling, and gauge nests that support automated production cells.
  • Document all preventive-maintenance activities in the electronic CMMS and recommend spare-parts stocking levels.
  • Mentor junior mechanics by demonstrating best-practice machining, polishing, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Champion a culture of safety, 5S, and lean manufacturing within the toolroom.

Required Expertise

  • 8 + years in a mold-maintenance or tool-room environment supporting injection-molding operations.
  • Proven ability to set up and run 3- and 4-axis CNC equipment as well as manual mills, lathes, and surface grinders.
  • Strong command of precision measuring tools (calipers, height/depth gauges, micrometers, dial indicators).
  • Solid understanding of steel types, heat-treat processes, and coatings used in high-volume plastic molds.
  • Ability to read complex engineering drawings and apply shop math & trigonometry to machining setups.
  • Track record of working safely around cranes, forklifts, and high-temperature molding equipment.

Preferred Extras

  • Experience with hot-runner maintenance, valve-gate systems, or unscrewing molds.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 or ISO 13485 quality-system requirements.
  • Exposure to mold-flow analysis software or design-for-manufacturability feedback loops.
  • Vocational certificate, journeyman card, or completed apprenticeship in Tool & Die, Mold Making, or Precision Machining.

Why You’ll Love It Here

  • Day-shift stability – be home for dinner every night and weekends free.
  • Competitive hourly pay with flexibility for master-level skills.
  • Modern, climate-controlled toolroom featuring brand-new CNC equipment and EDM capability.
  • Growth runway – the company funds external training and recognizes employees who step up as technical leaders.
  • High-impact work – your craftsmanship directly supports lifesaving medical devices and other mission-critical products.
