Spacecraft Mechanical Integration Engineer

On-site in Los Angeles, CA

Our client is an innovative aerospace organization developing advanced spacecraft for demanding missions. As the team expands its flight hardware capabilities, they are seeking a Spacecraft Mechanical Integration Engineer who can move comfortably between detailed mechanical design and hands-on spacecraft assembly. This is an opportunity to take meaningful ownership of flight hardware, solve challenging vehicle-level integration problems, and see your engineering work progress from CAD and incoming inspection through assembly, test, and delivery.

This Role Offers:

  • Direct involvement with space-flight hardware throughout the spacecraft build lifecycle.
  • Significant ownership of mechanical systems, structural interfaces, vehicle packaging, and integration activities.
  • Close collaboration with multidisciplinary spacecraft engineering teams.
  • Exposure to complex aerospace design, manufacturing, assembly, verification, and test challenges.
  • A comprehensive benefits package that includes employer-supported medical coverage, dental and vision benefits, a 401(k) matching option, paid time away, family leave, holiday pay, and additional employee benefits.

Focus:

  • Design and release spacecraft structures, mechanical assemblies, and supporting hardware, translating vehicle requirements into manufacturable components, drawings, tolerances, materials, and finishes.
  • Assemble and integrate space-flight hardware using disciplined mechanical practices, including controlled fastening, fit verification, hardware closeout, and other hands-on integration activities.
  • Develop assembly instructions, mechanical work plans, tooling, and ground support solutions that enable safe and repeatable spacecraft integration and testing.
  • Inspect incoming components and verify that mechanical hardware meets engineering requirements before installation.
  • Own assigned hardware throughout the build lifecycle, including receiving, inspection, vehicle integration, test preparation, packing, and shipment.
  • Partner with electrical, systems, manufacturing, and other engineering disciplines to resolve structural interfaces, harness routing constraints, packaging conflicts, and integration risks.
  • Maintain accurate engineering and build documentation covering inspections, design decisions, test observations, hardware configuration, and integration activities.
  • Apply cleanroom, ESD, aerospace workmanship, and spacecraft environmental requirements throughout hardware assembly, integration, and test activities.

Skill Set:

  • 5 or more years of core mechanical engineering experience within aerospace or a closely related technical field. Candidates with less than five years of applicable experience will not meet the minimum requirement.
  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a similar engineering discipline.
  • Proven hands-on experience assembling and integrating space-flight hardware, coupled with strong structural design and systems-level mechanical engineering capabilities.
  • Demonstrated experience addressing spacecraft packaging and physical integration challenges, including harness routing and multidisciplinary hardware interfaces.
  • Proficiency with mechanical CAD platforms such as SolidWorks, NX, or comparable tools, along with practical knowledge of engineering drawings, GD&T, and design for manufacturing.
  • Experience with hardware inspection, mechanical joints, fastener torque requirements, and material finishes such as anodizing.
  • Familiarity with NASA GEVS or comparable spacecraft environmental verification requirements, plus experience working with flight hardware under cleanroom and ESD controls.
  • Strong mechanical problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to independently own hardware and engineering tasks through completion.
