Civil Engineer – Data Centers

Location: Remote, Nationwide

Our client is expanding its technical capabilities to support a rapidly growing portfolio of large-scale data center developments across the United States. This is an opportunity for a civil engineer with meaningful data center experience to move upstream in the development process, influencing major site decisions before detailed engineering begins. Rather than spending your time exclusively on production design, you will help shape campus concepts, identify costly site challenges early, and work alongside multidisciplinary infrastructure professionals on complex, fast moving developments.

This position is especially well suited for a civil engineer who has built strong technical fundamentals within a larger engineering organization and is ready for broader exposure, greater ownership, and a closer connection to the decisions that shape major data center developments.

Focus:

• Evaluate prospective data center sites from a civil perspective, surfacing terrain, access, drainage, and development constraints before layouts become fixed.
• Shape conceptual campus plans and test fits, using civil judgment to challenge assumptions and improve site practicality.
• Contribute civil engineering insight during the earliest portion of design, generally the initial 5 to 10 percent of development.
• Review preliminary grading concepts and site configurations to flag conditions that could create cost, schedule, or constructability risk.
• Advise multidisciplinary teams on how civil conditions affect building placement, infrastructure corridors, and overall campus planning.
• Support rapid site diligence across multiple potential data center developments throughout the United States.
• Translate early civil findings into clear recommendations that help development teams make informed go- or no-go decisions.
• Coordinate with outside civil engineering partners as concepts mature and prepare projects for an efficient transition into detailed design.

Skill Set:

• Meaningful civil engineering or civil site design experience, with a project portfolio that includes substantial data center work. Data center experience is required.
• Hands on knowledge of large site development fundamentals, including grading, topography, layout, and constructability.
• Experience supporting conceptual site planning, master planning, or test fit development for complex facilities.
• Ability to identify major civil and site constraints from incomplete early-stage information and communicate practical next steps.
• Working experience with civil CAD or site development design tools.
• Ability to operate effectively in a remote, fast-moving environment while balancing several active projects.
• Practical problem-solving skills, sound technical judgment, and the initiative to take greater ownership of project outcomes.
• Experience within a multidisciplinary engineering or civil consulting environment is valuable.
• A Professional Engineer license is not required. Practical civil expertise, a strong data center project background, and the ability to recognize consequential site issues early are more important for this opportunity.
