Regional Director, Architecture & Engineering

Phoenix, AZ

Our client is a growing, multidisciplinary architecture and engineering organization entering an exciting stage of expansion in the Southwest. They are seeking an accomplished regional leader to guide a high-performing Arizona operation, strengthen its architecture and engineering capabilities, and help shape the next chapter of the business. This is a highly visible leadership opportunity for someone who wants more than responsibility for a single discipline. The Regional Director will have meaningful influence across people, operations, client strategy, financial performance, project delivery, and long-term growth.

The ideal leader combines the commercial instincts of a business executive with the credibility to lead experienced architecture and engineering professionals. This person will inherit an established platform while having the opportunity to develop leaders, expand key relationships, improve business performance, and build an organization positioned for sustainable growth.

This Role Offers

  • Executive-level influence over the strategy and performance of a growing regional architecture and engineering operation.
  • Opportunity to lead and develop multidisciplinary teams while building the next generation of organizational leadership.
  • A highly collaborative environment that values entrepreneurial thinking, technical excellence, accountability, and strong client relationships.
  • Significant visibility with senior leadership and the ability to influence growth initiatives, organizational planning, and future expansion.
  • A role that combines strategic leadership with tangible ownership of financial, operational, talent, and client outcomes.
  • Competitive executive compensation and comprehensive benefits, including performance-based variable compensation and bonus opportunity, with potential stock or equity participation.
  • The resources of a broader organization combined with an environment that values local leadership, relationships, and market expertise.

Focus

  • Set the strategic direction for regional architecture and engineering operations, translating broader business priorities into measurable goals for growth, execution, and team performance.
  • Own regional business results across revenue, profitability, forecasting, utilization, staffing, resource planning, and overall operational health.
  • Recruit, coach, develop, and retain high-performing professionals while strengthening leadership capabilities and succession planning across the organization.
  • Unite architecture, engineering, project management, and supporting functions around an integrated approach to project delivery, quality, resource allocation, and client service.
  • Maintain executive oversight of significant projects, helping teams navigate delivery risks, contractual requirements, financial challenges, and complex client matters.
  • Strengthen relationships with key clients and prospects while partnering with practice leaders on business development, pursuit strategy, presentations, negotiations, and market expansion.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve workflows, communication, technology adoption, operational consistency, and scalable business practices.
  • Partner with senior leadership on strategic planning, organizational development, growth initiatives, and the integration of future expansion opportunities.
  • Represent the organization within the regional A&E community while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, professional development, and technical excellence.

Skill Set

  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, Engineering Management, or a related discipline.
  • 15 or more years of progressive experience within architecture, engineering, multidisciplinary consulting, or a closely related professional services environment.
  • Significant leadership experience overseeing multidisciplinary teams, business operations, project delivery, client relationships, and organizational performance.
  • Demonstrated financial and business acumen, including responsibility for revenue, profitability, forecasting, utilization, staffing, and resource planning.
  • Proven ability to develop leaders, build high-performing teams, strengthen organizational capability, and successfully navigate periods of growth or change.
  • Strong commercial orientation with experience cultivating strategic client relationships, developing new business, and identifying opportunities for market or service expansion.
  • Working knowledge of architecture and engineering project delivery, including project economics, quality expectations, risk management, and resource requirements.
  • Strong executive presence, communication, decision-making, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical, operational, client, and executive audiences.
  • Registered Architect or Professional Engineer credentials are strongly valued, with comparable senior-level A&E leadership experience considered. Experience leading multiple locations, supporting acquisitions or integration initiatives, and an advanced degree are additional advantages.
