Director of Engineering – Fiber (FTTH), OSP

As Director of Engineering you will own technical strategy, process excellence, and team performance for multi-state FTTH and outside-plant programs—directly impacting how millions of people connect every day.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical and people leadership for multi-disciplinary engineering teams producing FTTH, metro, and long-haul fiber designs
- Convert program goals into actionable scope, schedules, capacity models, and margin targets
- Standardize workflows and KPIs—productivity, first-pass yield, SLA adherence—across regions
- Partner with construction, permitting, and customer success teams to remove roadblocks and keep projects on track
- Drive continuous improvement by introducing automation, GIS optimization, and other process enhancements that reduce rework
- Serve as senior engineering voice with clients, agencies, and utilities—owning status reports, technical escalations, and bid inputs
- Recruit, mentor, and retain managers, team leads, and high-potential engineers—building a pipeline of future leaders
- Ensure compliance with all safety, quality, and regulatory standards for outside-plant design
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive fiber network engineering experience within telecom, utility, or EPC environments
- 5+ years leading multi-site engineering teams (managing managers)
- Expert knowledge of FTTH and OSP best practices (make-ready, pole & conduit routing, permitting workflows, GIS-based design)
- Proven success managing dashboards, KPIs, and budgets in a rapid-growth setting
- Proficiency with modern GIS, CAD, or workflow/automation platforms
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
Preferred Extras
- Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license
- Experience supporting hyperscale data-center interconnect or federal broadband funding programs
- Background recruiting and managing geographically distributed or outsourced engineering resources
