Controller

Hybrid, Austin, TX

Are you a hands-on finance leader who thrives in fast-moving, high-growth environments? This is a unique opportunity to step into a highly visible role supporting a dynamic portfolio of commercial services and construction-related businesses. Backed by a well-capitalized investment group, this organization is in an exciting phase of expansion and operational transformation. This role offers the chance to directly influence financial performance, strengthen operational discipline, and help scale a multi-entity platform preparing for long-term growth and future strategic milestones.

This is not a traditional Controller position. You will operate at the intersection of accounting and operations, partnering closely with field leadership to drive project-level financial clarity, improve reporting accuracy, and build scalable processes across multiple business units.

What You Will Do

  • Lead financial oversight across multiple operating entities, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and strong internal controls.
  • Partner with project managers and operational leaders to improve visibility into job performance, cost tracking, and margin analysis.
  • Drive best practices in construction accounting, including job costing, work in progress reporting, revenue recognition, and project reconciliations.
  • Own and enhance the monthly close process, delivering timely and reliable financial reporting.
  • Develop and maintain detailed cash flow forecasts, providing insight into collections, disbursements, and project cash needs.
  • Strengthen core accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and financial reporting processes.
  • Support compliance with certified payroll and prevailing wage requirements tied to government and municipal projects.
  • Standardize and improve financial processes across a fragmented systems landscape, helping unify reporting and operational workflows.
  • Collaborate with leadership to provide actionable insights on financial trends, project performance, and business outcomes.
  • Travel periodically to operating locations to support implementation, build relationships, and drive alignment.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5 or more years of experience in a Controller, Assistant Controller, or senior accounting leadership role.
  • Strong background in construction or project-based accounting, including job costing, WIP, and percentage of completion accounting.
  • Proven ability to partner with operational teams and influence decision making.
  • Experience working in multi-entity or roll-up environments with evolving processes.
  • Knowledge of certified payroll and prevailing wage environments.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial setting with evolving systems and structures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in commercial construction, specialty contracting, or field services industries.
  • Exposure to multi-location or private equity-backed environments.
  • CPA or public accounting background.
  • Experience supporting both service and project-based revenue streams.

What Success Looks Like

In the first year, you will establish stronger consistency in financial reporting, improve accuracy in project-level data, enhance cash flow visibility, and build trusted partnerships with operational leaders. You will play a key role in creating scalable financial infrastructure that supports continued growth and long-term strategic objectives.
