Civil Engineering Department Manager

Work Arrangement: On-site, Omaha | NE

As Civil Engineering Department Manager you will steer multiple project teams, refine operational strategy, and champion a collaborative culture that delivers high-quality residential and commercial site solutions. Your leadership will accelerate growth across two offices while elevating the next generation of civil engineers.


What You’ll Do

  • Translate corporate vision into actionable department goals and productivity metrics.
  • Grow and guide a blended staff of project managers and design professionals through mentorship, workforce planning, and targeted hiring.
  • Formalize best-in-class design procedures, QA/QC checkpoints, and cross-department workflows to improve speed and consistency.
  • Strengthen industry relationships by representing the firm at professional societies and community events, opening doors to new private-sector developments.
  • Oversee research initiatives aimed at unlocking new service lines, technologies, and process improvements.
  • Present technical concepts to non-technical audiences, municipal boards, and client stakeholders, advancing project approvals and company visibility.


What You Bring

  • PE licensure and 15 + years of progressive civil, environmental, or related engineering experience, including 5 + years leading multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Proven track record managing schedules, budgets, and resources for concurrent land-development portfolios.
  • Mastery of project-management tools, analytical problem-solving, and client-facing communication.
  • People-first leadership style that fosters engagement, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Bonus Points

  • Graduate degree in engineering management or business.
  • Nebraska PE or ability to obtain quickly.
  • Prior P&L ownership of a technical business unit.
