Last Mile Fiber Engineer
Location: Remote, Nationwide
Join the forefront of next-gen fiber infrastructure.
Our client, a stealth-mode infrastructure innovator, is seeking a Last Mile Fiber Engineer to join a strategic team at the intersection of telecommunications and hyperscale data connectivity. This role is critical in shaping national backbone expansions, metro fiber rollouts, and last mile access strategies for digital infrastructure deployments across the U.S.
This is an opportunity to make a lasting impact as a foundational member of a growing team. You will drive meaningful technical and commercial decisions for how and where digital infrastructure connects - creating the future of access networks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as a technical and strategic advisor to drive interconnection strategies, access network rollouts, and end-point provisioning.
- Identify, evaluate, and negotiate with network carriers, vendors, and dark fiber providers for last mile and middle mile infrastructure projects.
- Influence the development and deployment of termination points within metro, regional, and long-haul fiber routes.
- Develop and execute partnerships that drive connectivity between enterprise data centers, scale campuses, and aggregation zones.
- Collaborate with internal teams and infrastructure stakeholders to identify bottlenecks, mitigate risks, and optimize access and routing decisions.
- Engage with engineering, operations, and executive-level stakeholders to present strategies, cost models, and deployment schedules.
- Map and model infrastructure options using GIS tools and apply business judgment to determine viable routes and delivery partners.
What You Bring:
- 5+ years of experience in the telecom or fiber optics space, ideally working with ISPs, carriers, hyperscalers, or large-scale infrastructure owners.
- A strong understanding of terrestrial fiber networks, peering ecosystems, and interconnection models.
- Experience managing infrastructure partnerships and executing carrier/vendor negotiations.
- Solid knowledge of GIS-based planning and infrastructure modeling.
- Proven ability to manage technical vendor relationships and negotiate favorable outcomes for complex network deployments.
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (engineering, ICT, or related) or equivalent work experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience at a major carrier, internet provider, or hyperscale/cloud infrastructure provider.
- Demonstrated ability to forecast and shape customer requirements into executable infrastructure plans.
- Prior involvement in technical business development, network planning, or data center interconnection initiatives.
- Ability to communicate highly technical plans and outcomes to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Why Apply?
- Be part of a company influencing how national networks connect and scale.
- Work alongside deeply experienced professionals in a high-impact, early-stage setting.
- Opportunity to grow into a leadership role as the team and infrastructure expand.
- 100% remote flexibility with nationwide influence and exposure to cutting-edge network projects.
