Electrical Systems Project Manager, Critical Infrastructure

Location: Buffalo, NY (On-site)

Travel: Up to 75 percent, project dependent


An industry leading project delivery and technical consulting organization is seeking an experienced Electrical Systems Project Manager to oversee commissioning activities on complex, mission critical facilities. What You Will Do

  • Lead the execution of electrical system startup and validation efforts from initial project coordination through final handoff on large-scale critical infrastructure developments.
  • Develop commissioning schedules that align with construction milestones and project delivery objectives.
  • Coordinate commissioning efforts among owners, contractors, design teams, equipment manufacturers, and field personnel.
  • Lead commissioning meetings, communicate project status, and proactively resolve technical and schedule challenges.
  • Review commissioning documentation including test procedures, deficiency logs, turnover packages, and final reports.
  • Oversee field execution for primary and secondary electrical power systems, ensuring all distribution components, emergency power equipment, and related infrastructure perform as designed.
  • Oversee all phases of the commissioning lifecycle, from initial equipment verification through comprehensive system performance and operational validation, including integrated testing activities.
  • Oversee factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing, and integrated operational testing to validate system performance.
  • Verify protection schemes, grounding, coordination studies, monitoring systems, and control system integration.
  • Support energization planning while maintaining strict compliance with electrical safety requirements.
  • Maintain high standards for quality assurance, documentation, and commissioning best practices.
  • Coordinate with mechanical, controls, and construction teams to support integrated project execution.
  • Track commissioning progress, deficiencies, and project documentation using Procore and Microsoft 365 tools.
  • Build strong client relationships through professional communication, technical leadership, and responsive project management.
  • Support final turnover activities, operational readiness reviews, and owner training.

 

Required Qualifications

  • At least 7 years of hands-on experience supporting electrical system startup, power infrastructure projects, or high-availability facility operations.
  • At least 3 years of experience leading commissioning programs or managing complex construction projects.
  • Experience supporting data centers or other mission critical environments such as healthcare, semiconductor manufacturing, financial services, or similar high reliability facilities.
  • Thorough understanding of Levels 1 through 5 commissioning methodology and Integrated Systems Testing.
  • Strong knowledge of critical electrical infrastructure including medium and low voltage switchgear, generators, UPS systems, ATS equipment, PDUs, RPPs, busway, and electrical distribution systems.
  • Understanding of applicable electrical compliance requirements, power system testing guidelines, and accepted commissioning best practices.
  • Experience using Procore and Microsoft 365.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, organizational, and client relationship skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively and work safely on active construction sites.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Construction Management, or another related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Professional licensure or an industry-recognized credential related to engineering, commissioning, or technical systems is preferred.
  • Experience working within third party commissioning, owner's representative, or program management organizations.
  • Familiarity with hyperscale or colocation data center construction environments.
  • Experience working with facility automation platforms, electrical system analytics, and coordinated system validation efforts.
