Automation Controls Specialist - PLC

Location: Onsite in Spring Hill, FL and Dunedin, FL

Industry: Advanced Electromechanical Manufacturing

Join a leading innovator in precision manufacturing, where high-performance electromechanical systems are built for critical applications across multiple industries. With a commitment to operational excellence and employee development, this company offers a stable, long-term opportunity for a skilled Automation Controls Specialist - PLC to make an immediate impact in a high-ownership role.

This position was created to enhance redundancy and reduce risk from single-point-of-failure gaps within the automation engineering team. You'll be working alongside talented professionals in a close-knit environment, with access to cutting-edge equipment and a commitment to cross-training and team collaboration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, modify, and troubleshoot PLC programs, ensuring efficient and accurate system functionality.
  • Support Human Machine Interface (HMI) programming tasks, especially using Allen-Bradley RSLogix 500/5000.
  • Assist with the creation and revision of electrical schematics using AutoCAD.
  • Build and modify control panels and install automation components on the production floor.
  • Troubleshoot PLCs and electrical control systems at the component level using meters, oscilloscopes, and other diagnostic tools.
  • Interface with AC/DC drives, sensors, encoders, actuators, and instrumentation.
  • Write procedures for system commissioning, perform functional testing, and support installations.
  • Deliver ongoing technical support to internal teams throughout the lifecycle of control system deployments.

Candidate Profile:

  • Hands-on ability in both programming and troubleshooting PLC systems (expect a 50/50 split).
  • Experience working in a production or manufacturing setting with real-world automation challenges.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD for creating, modifying, and documenting electrical schematics.
  • Comfortable working fully onsite, Monday through Friday, within a typical 8:00 AM–4:30 PM schedule (some flexibility available).
  • Exposure to industrial automation components including drives, relays, sensors, and signal devices.

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of PLC experience with a relevant technical degree or 3–5 years of hands-on experience without a degree.
  • Strong foundation in troubleshooting and support of automation systems, not just programming.
  • Allen-Bradley experience is preferred, though transferable experience with Siemens or other platforms is acceptable.
  • Ability to communicate technical issues clearly and work collaboratively across disciplines.

What’s In It For You:

  • Join a stable, long-standing employer with a reputation for retaining and developing its team.
  • Enjoy a role that’s impactful from day one by reducing operational risk and improving production efficiency.
  • Receive exposure to new product development and advanced automation technologies.
  • Participate in a culture focused on growth, mentorship, and long-term career development.
