An industry-leading construction organization is entering a pivotal phase of national growth and is seeking a Managing Director of Development to shape and scale its business development function. This is a highly visible leadership role where you will influence multimillion and billion dollar project pipelines, guide enterprise growth strategy, and partner directly with executive leadership to drive long-term success across key markets such as advanced manufacturing, mission critical infrastructure, and large-scale commercial builds.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and orchestrate national business development strategy across multiple verticals, ensuring alignment with organizational growth objectives
  • Oversee and refine pipeline management processes, evaluating opportunity quality, prioritization, and conversion into secured backlog
  • Build and maintain executive level relationships with owners, developers, architects, engineers, and strategic partners
  • Guide complex pursuit efforts from early engagement through contract execution, aligning internal teams to deliver compelling and differentiated solutions
  • Partner cross functionally with preconstruction, operations, and executive leadership to ensure seamless execution from concept through completion
  • Establish structure, accountability, and performance standards across a growing development team, including direct and indirect reports
  • Translate market trends, competitive insights, and economic factors into actionable strategies that drive revenue growth
  • Serve as a key advisor to leadership on market positioning, expansion opportunities, and long-term business planning


Skill Set and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, Business, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
  • 10 to 20 years of experience within the construction industry, with a strong background in business development, preconstruction, or project execution
  • Proven leadership experience overseeing teams and driving accountability for pipeline performance and results
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, project lifecycle, and cost drivers, with the ability to connect technical insight to business strategy
  • Demonstrated success leading complex pursuits and securing large scale projects
  • Ability to influence without authority and align diverse stakeholders across multiple regions or business units
  • Excellent communication and executive presence, with the ability to engage senior level clients and internal leaders
  • Strategic thinker with strong decision-making capabilities and a proactive, results oriented mindset

Preferred Experience:

  • Background in large scale commercial or industrial construction environments
  • Experience with design build or collaborative delivery models
  • Exposure to high growth environments with evolving structures and processes
  • Track record of building or transforming business development functions
  • Strong ability to synthesize complex information into clear, actionable strategies
