Controller

A well-established project-driven organization in the construction space is seeking a Controller to lead core financial operations and help shape the next phase of growth. This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for someone who enjoys building structure, improving visibility, and partnering closely with operations to keep a complex business running at a high level. The right person will bring a strong command of accounting, sound business judgment, and the ability to guide both day-to-day execution and long-term financial discipline.
What This Role Will Focus On
- Lead the company’s accounting function across general ledger, payables, receivables, payroll, and financial reporting.
- Direct month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements.
- Maintain strong internal controls, reconciliations, and reporting practices that support compliance and financial accuracy.
- Partner with leadership to monitor cash flow, support forecasting, and provide financial guidance tied to business priorities.
- Oversee audit readiness and coordinate with outside partners related to financial reviews, tax matters, insurance, and other reporting requirements.
- Support contract and project-related financial processes, including billing workflows, cost tracking, and change documentation.
- Strengthen finance systems and reporting tools to improve efficiency, visibility, and decision-making.
- Work closely with operational leaders to evaluate project performance, identify risk, and support profitable execution.
- Help drive budgeting and planning activities by delivering reliable data and actionable financial insight.
- Mentor and develop accounting staff, creating a productive and accountable team environment.
What We Are Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Progressive experience in accounting or finance leadership, including ownership of close, reporting, and controls.
- Background in construction, contracting, subcontracting, or another project-based environment is strongly preferred.
- Experience supporting audits, financial process improvement, and compliance-driven reporting.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, account reconciliations, cash management, and financial analysis.
- Familiarity with ERP or accounting platforms and advanced Excel capabilities.
- Ability to balance detail orientation with broader business perspective.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both finance and operations stakeholders.
- Professional judgment, discretion, and a high level of integrity in handling sensitive information.
