Senior Thermal Packaging Engineer
Location: On site, Wilmington, DE and Greater Baltimore Area
Our client is building the next generation of temperature sensitive packaging solutions for high value products that cannot afford performance gaps in transit. This is a high impact engineering role for someone who wants to shape new packaging platforms, influence product development direction, and help strengthen an innovation focused organization during a period of meaningful growth. The team is looking for a hands-on leader who can bring strong thermal packaging expertise, practical validation knowledge, and the ability to move ideas from concept into scalable real-world solutions.

Focus
- Guide development of temperature sensitive packaging platforms from concept through pilot and commercialization
- Translate customer and operational needs into insulated shipper designs, component selections, and test plans
- Lead lab and field validation activities, including distribution studies, thermal performance assessments, and failure analysis
- Partner with manufacturing, sourcing, quality, and commercial teams to improve cost, packout consistency, and scalability
- Mentor engineers and technicians, establish project priorities, and elevate design and documentation discipline
- Use data from prototypes, transit trials, and validation work to refine materials, configurations, and performance margins
- Support customer facing technical conversations tied to packaging performance, risk reduction, and implementation readiness
- Track market and regulatory trends influencing life sciences and other temperature sensitive shipping applications
Skill Set
- 6 plus years of progressive packaging engineering experience in a product development or innovation environment
- Strong background in thermal packaging, cold chain packaging, or other temperature controlled shipping applications
- Experience with packaging validation, testing protocols, and ISTA related distribution performance work
- Demonstrated leadership experience, either through direct people leadership or technical project leadership
- Demonstrated success collaborating with product development, manufacturing, compliance, and business development groups to launch innovative offerings into the marketplace
- Bachelor degree in Packaging Engineering or a related engineering discipline preferred
- Strong communication skills, sound engineering judgment, and a practical problem-solving mindset
- Ability to travel occasionally for plant collaboration, validation work, or customer related activity
