Project Engineer

 Location: On-site, Phoenix AZ

Our client is a well-established heavy-civil contractor that is rapidly expanding its water and wastewater portfolio across Arizona. With several job-order-contract (JOC) awards in hand and a robust pipeline of municipal and private-sector work, they are adding a Project Engineer who is eager to learn every phase of project delivery and grow into a future Project Manager. If you thrive on fast-moving projects that improve community water systems, this is your chance to join a high-impact team with clear advancement potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Synchronize RFIs, submittals, and field logs to keep project documentation current and audit-ready.
  • Team up with site leaders to track milestones, crew resources, and short-interval schedules that keep multiple jobs on time.
  • Support JOC pursuits by assembling estimates, scope narratives, and proposal clarifications for quick-turn projects.
  • Validate vendor invoices and crew timecards, flagging cost variances and assisting with monthly pay applications.
  • Own safety walk-downs while helping compile start-up, commissioning, and turnover packages for project close-out.

What You’ll Work On

  • Water and wastewater treatment upgrades, pump stations, and distribution pipelines.
  • Fast-track JOC assignments ranging from $150 K to $1.2 M, often 4- to 6-week cradle-to-grave cycles.
  • Occasional travel throughout the Valley and northern Arizona for site visits (primarily day trips).

Qualifications

  • 1+ year of construction experience (internships count) with exposure to project coordination or controls.
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Civil / Mechanical Engineering, or similar.
  • Familiarity with construction software such as Procore and Foundation; Primavera or CAD exposure is a plus.
  • Strong communication, organization, and multitasking skills; passion for continuous learning.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive base salary plus 5 – 15 % bonus tied to project performance.
  • 401(k) match, medical/dental/vision, HSA option, and 10+ PTO days.
  • Professional development budget, tuition reimbursement, and structured mentorship.

Why This Role

  • Ground-floor growth: help build a new water division backed by leadership with a successful heavy-civil track record.
  • Broad exposure: estimating, scheduling, field coordination, and client interface—own the full project life-cycle early.
  • Clear runway: defined path to Assistant PM and Project Manager roles as the group scales regionally.
