Electrical Test Design Engineer

Location: Onsite, Phoenix Area


A pioneering innovator in space-grade electronics is seeking an experienced Electrical Test Design Engineer to contribute to the testing and validation of advanced embedded computing systems used in high-stakes aerospace and defense missions. This is a full-time, onsite opportunity in the greater Phoenix, Arizona area, ideal for an engineer passionate about pushing the boundaries of technology used in orbit, on the Moon, and beyond.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and build specialized electrical test systems that support the integration and validation of avionics systems.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure all test solutions meet stringent system-level and contract performance requirements.
  • Select and integrate Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) instruments where applicable and design custom fixtures, cabling, and interface hardware.
  • Develop test software using LabVIEW for instrument control, UI development, and integration with test workflows.
  • Write firmware test scripts in Python or PERL and coordinate automated testing with embedded VxWorks-based systems using C.
  • Produce and maintain all required documentation, including schematics, assembly diagrams, bill of materials (BOM), and test procedures.
  • Author Integration and Test Plans, Environmental Test Plans, and Acceptance Test Procedures for delivery to clients and internal teams.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-disciplinary teams to validate and verify custom embedded computing platforms and power systems.
  • Occasionally assist in FPGA/VHDL validation and testing workflows.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 3–5 years of relevant engineering experience with embedded system validation and hardware-in-the-loop testing.
  • Proficient in C programming and scripting languages such as Python or PERL.
  • Strong background in LabVIEW development and hardware interfacing.
  • Comfortable working with schematic design tools (Visio, Intercept Mozaix, or similar).
  • Experience developing cable harness drawings and custom interface boards.
  • Ability to manage documentation control within structured systems and workflows.
  • Strong collaboration and time management skills, with a proactive and hands-on engineering mindset.

Preferred Experience:

  • Exposure to FPGA programming (VHDL) or digital logic test methodologies.
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, or satellite system environments.
  • Familiarity with onboard data management systems and power distribution infrastructure.
