Business Development Director

Location: Remote / Nationwide (U.S.) — 30-40 percent travel to customer and project sites

Reports to: Chief Commercial Officer

Compensation: Competitive base, performance bonus, equity participation, and full benefits


A stealth-mode power-infrastructure platform, backed by a leading private-equity sponsor, is scaling the first nationwide portfolio of modular, large-load generation assets designed specifically for the explosive growth of AI, hyperscale, and other high-density compute markets. As the Business Development Director, you will own customer origination and offtake strategy, translating a unique mix of rapid-deploy gas generation, optional carbon-reduction technologies, and waste-heat or cooling integrations into bankable energy-service solutions for data-center and next-gen industrial operators. Your success will directly shape the revenue trajectory of this high-growth venture and provide board-level visibility from day one.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Origination & Relationship Leadership — Engage AI-compute, hyperscale, edge, and high-performance-compute stakeholders to secure long-term power commitments for a growing pipeline of behind-the-meter generation projects.
  • Pipeline Management — Build and maintain a robust funnel of offtake opportunities across multiple U.S. growth regions, prioritizing the company’s first two flagship sites while scouting new markets for expansion.
  • Solution Positioning — Craft value propositions around reliability, modular deployment speed, price stability, PUE optimization, waste-heat re-use, and optional DER add-ons such as battery storage.
  • Deal Structuring — Collaborate with finance, legal, engineering, and regulatory teams to negotiate PPAs, energy-service agreements, and take-or-pay structures that align customer needs with project economics.
  • Market Intelligence — Track data-center siting trends, interconnection queues, regional power-market dynamics, and thermal-management innovation to inform commercial strategy.
  • Thought Leadership & Branding — Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and customer briefings, elevating brand visibility in the digital-infrastructure ecosystem.
  • Cross-Functional Alignment — Ensure that commercial commitments dovetail with permitting, engineering, and construction milestones, de-risking delivery and start-up schedules.

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Finance, or related field; MBA or technical master’s ideal.
  • 8-15 years of success in power origination, large-load energy sales, or data-center infrastructure BD.
  • Existing network within AI/hyperscale, digital-infrastructure, or high-density-compute communities.
  • Working knowledge of gas-fired generation, emissions considerations, and optional carbon-reduction or clean-energy integrations.
  • Proven ability to translate complex technical offerings into compelling commercial narratives for C-suite and technical audiences.
  • Entrepreneurial, self-directed approach suited to an agile, PE-backed growth company.
  • Willingness to travel regularly to customer sites and key project locations.
