Desktop Software Engineer

As a Desktop Software Engineer, you will help shape a production desktop product where performance, responsiveness, and reliability directly influence the user experience. Focus
- Engineer and evolve a production Electron desktop application with an emphasis on stability, responsiveness, and maintainable architecture.
- Develop polished desktop interfaces that remain fast and intuitive while supporting continuously changing application data.
- Create operating system integrations for capabilities such as local file access, application notifications, software updates, and link handling.
- Connect desktop experiences with intelligent product functionality delivered through backend services and APIs.
- Improve application startup, memory consumption, and runtime responsiveness through measurement, profiling, and targeted optimization.
- Build efficient approaches for storing, retrieving, and managing substantial amounts of persistent local application data.
- Develop reliable live application experiences using real time communication patterns while accounting for connectivity changes and failure conditions.
- Strengthen communication between desktop application processes using secure and maintainable IPC patterns.
- Diagnose complex application behavior using debugging, instrumentation, and performance analysis techniques.
- Deliver a dependable user experience across Windows and macOS while accounting for differences in native operating system behavior.
Skill Set
- Hands on experience building and shipping Electron applications that are actively used in production environments.
- Strong JavaScript and TypeScript development expertise, along with professional experience using React or a comparable modern UI framework.
- Strong understanding of desktop software architecture, including application startup and shutdown behavior, process communication, and operating system integration.
- Hands-on background integrating inter-process communication (IPC) capabilities into desktop software environments.
- Practical knowledge of building applications that retain data locally through embedded databases, browser-based storage, or file system solutions.
- Knowledge of WebSockets or comparable technologies used to support real time application communication.
- Demonstrated ability to investigate performance issues using debugging, profiling, and diagnostic tools.
- Understanding of performance considerations involving application startup, memory utilization, state management, and long running desktop sessions.
- Familiarity with platform specific behavior and application delivery considerations for Windows, macOS, or both.
- Ability to work independently, make thoughtful engineering decisions, and contribute effectively within a fast-moving product team.
