Director of Behavioral Health Nursing

Location: On-site in Greater Denver area

A well-established organization delivering cutting-edge behavioral health solutions is looking for a forward-thinking, purpose-driven nursing executive to oversee clinical operations at its recently expanded care campus. This is a unique chance to shape and direct an innovative care approach that transforms the management of mental health and substance use emergencies within a round-the-clock environment. With recent investments in a new psychiatric emergency services center and the expansion of acute care offerings, this organization is poised to redefine crisis intervention in its community.

The Behavioral Health Nursing Director will lead integrated service lines spanning psychiatric monitoring, crisis intervention, on-demand patient access, detoxification support, and short-term residential treatment. This position requires an adaptable clinical leader with the initiative to drive transformation, establish care standards, and build a top-tier nursing team from the ground up. If you’re motivated to advance and redefine behavioral health crisis care, we’d welcome the opportunity to speak with you.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Guide nursing direction and oversee day-to-day clinical functions across a behavioral health crisis campus, encompassing psychiatric emergency services, detoxification, stabilization programs, and short-term inpatient care.
  • Build and implement clinical protocols for acute behavioral health and substance use disorder services with a focus on quality, safety, and trauma-informed care.
  • Attract, develop, and retain a skilled psychiatric nursing staff equipped to care for patients experiencing high-acuity behavioral health crises.
  • Develop training programs focused on suicide risk assessment, psychiatric stabilization, substance withdrawal management, and therapeutic de-escalation techniques.
  • Collaborate with executive and medical leadership to shape the organization’s clinical care model and support cross-disciplinary care integration.
  • Drive adoption of evidence-based practices, optimize workflows, and foster continuous quality improvement across nursing services.
  • Inspire a culture of compassion, accountability, and operational excellence in line with mission-driven behavioral healthcare values.

Qualifications:

  • Active RN license in the state of Colorado or the ability to obtain it.
  • BSN required; advanced clinical or administrative degree preferred.
  • At least seven years of clinical nursing experience, with five or more years in a supervisory or leadership position.
  • Demonstrated expertise in behavioral health, psychiatric emergency services, or substance use treatment settings.
  • Demonstrated track record of developing care frameworks or initiating new clinical service lines.
  • Commanding leadership style with the capacity to energize care teams and successfully guide them through periods of transition.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across clinical and administrative functions.

Why Join This Team?

  • Contribute directly to the rollout of an innovative approach to behavioral health emergency services.
  • Work in a purpose-driven environment that prioritizes innovation, patient-centered care, and professional development.
  • Partner with an executive team dedicated to elevating care delivery for patients experiencing crisis situations.
  • Be part of a positive, team-oriented environment consistently acknowledged as a top workplace in the area.
  • Attractive salary package complemented by a full suite of benefits and student loan repayment options.
