Site Acquisition Lead

Location: Remote / Nationwide (Bay Area candidates strongly preferred)

 

Our client is a confidential, next-generation data-center developer that is scaling artificial-intelligence capacity across North America. They have already secured billions in funding and need a Site Acquisition Lead to spearhead the discovery, evaluation, and purchase of large-scale sites (hundreds of MW to multi-GW). You will own the land-and-power pipeline from first contact through close, partnering with utilities, landowners, and internal executives to make sure tomorrow’s most advanced compute campuses have the real estate and megawatts they need to thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Planning – Design and refine a multi-region site-acquisition roadmap that aligns with forecasted AI compute demand.
  • Site Screening – Analyze candidate parcels for power availability, fiber routes, zoning, environmental constraints, and long-term scalability.
  • Utility Engagement – Build relationships with IOUs and co-ops to model capacity, interconnection timelines, and tariff structures; negotiate PPAs and load-interconnect agreements.
  • Deal Negotiation – Lead purchase, option, and ground-lease negotiations and structure high-value agreements (hundreds MW +).
  • Due Diligence – Oversee title, environmental, geotechnical, and permitting reviews; manage risk-mitigation strategies.
  • Pipeline Management – Maintain a live tracking system that scores, prioritizes, and reports on opportunities for leadership review.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership – Combine engineering, legal, and finance inputs into executive-ready investment cases.
  • Stakeholder Relations – Represent the company with landowners, economic-development councils, and public agencies; travel ≈ 40 %.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in Engineering, Real Estate, Urban Planning, or related.
  • 8 + years directing land or site acquisition for high-load power or digital-infrastructure projects.
  • Proven success partnering with utilities on large-scale interconnections.
  • Track record closing complex, multi-party transactions.
  • Strong modeling and data-analysis skills; ability to thrive in a high-growth, remote-first culture.

Preferred Extras

  • Established network within major North-American utilities.
  • Experience sourcing hyperscale data-center or utility-scale renewable sites.
  • Exposure to international site-selection projects.
