Optical Applications Engineer – High-Speed Optical Transceivers
Location: Santa Clara, CA (Onsite)
Our client, an established technology innovator specializing in advanced electronic and optical connectivity solutions, is seeking an Optical Applications Engineer to help bring next-generation high-speed optical technologies into real-world applications. This position offers a unique opportunity for a technically driven engineering professional to apply practical expertise, collaborate with clients on specialized solutions, and contribute to innovative advancements supporting next-generation computing environments and sophisticated electronic applications.
This role provides the opportunity to apply hands-on technical expertise, support client-driven initiatives, and develop practical solutions to complex engineering challenges. Rather than focusing on a single engineering discipline, you will have the opportunity to expand your expertise in optical communications while making a direct impact on product performance and customer success. Engineers with strong electronics testing backgrounds are encouraged to apply, even without prior optical transceiver experience.
This Role Offers:
- Competitive base salary, with additional bonus potential.
- Comprehensive benefits, including medical, dental, vision, retirement savings options, and paid time off.
- Expand technical knowledge in advanced optical technologies through hands-on learning, professional development, and guidance from seasoned engineering professionals.
- A dynamic engineering environment combining laboratory testing, technical documentation, and direct customer interaction.
Focus:
- Conduct hands-on electronic and optical hardware evaluations, using laboratory instruments to investigate performance, identify issues, and validate system behavior.
- Assist customers with technical integration challenges by analyzing test results, troubleshooting hardware, and recommending practical engineering solutions.
- Perform electrical measurements and characterization using oscilloscopes and related test equipment to support product evaluation and problem resolution.
- Develop technical materials, including test summaries, product documentation, measurement procedures, and application guidance for internal and external audiences.
- Partner with engineering and commercial teams to translate customer requirements into actionable technical recommendations.
- Present technical findings, support product demonstrations, and participate in occasional customer visits or industry events.
- Coordinate multiple technical requests while collaborating with engineering colleagues across different locations and time zones.
Skill Set:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a closely related technical discipline, with strong knowledge of electronics, circuits, and electrical measurements.
- Practical industrial laboratory experience involving hands-on electronic hardware testing, characterization, and troubleshooting.
- Demonstrated proficiency with oscilloscopes, including setting up measurements, interpreting waveforms, and diagnosing hardware performance issues.
- Strong written communication skills, with experience preparing technical reports, test procedures, product documentation, or customer-facing engineering materials.
- Ability to explain complex technical information clearly and confidently to customers, engineering colleagues, and nontechnical stakeholders.
- Comfortable working directly with customers, delivering technical presentations, supporting demonstrations, and traveling occasionally as business needs require.
- Self-directed, adaptable, and collaborative, with the ability to manage changing priorities while working onsite with geographically distributed teams.
