Infrastructure Commissioning Lead - Electrical

Location: On-site in Buffalo, NY


A respected engineering and construction services organization is expanding its commissioning team and is seeking an experienced Electrical Infrastructure Commissioning Lead to oversee field commissioning activities on large-scale, mission critical data center projects. This is a highly visible leadership opportunity for a hands-on professional who thrives in complex construction environments and enjoys driving projects from system startup through final operational readiness.


Working alongside project leadership, contractors, and technical specialists, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure performs safely, efficiently, and reliably before facility turnover. Focus

  • Lead day-to-day field commissioning activities throughout startup, functional testing, integrated systems testing, and final turnover.
  • Coordinate commissioning efforts with project management, construction teams, trade partners, vendors, and equipment manufacturers.
  • Direct field personnel during installation verification, pre-functional inspections, functional performance testing, and integrated systems testing activities.
  • Confirm equipment readiness prior to system energization and testing while maintaining strict quality standards.
  • Lead the execution of comprehensive commissioning efforts across multiple building systems throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Manage commissioning deficiencies, field observations, corrective actions, and final verification through project completion.
  • Champion a proactive safety culture while ensuring compliance with Lockout Tagout procedures, NFPA 70E practices, OSHA standards, and project-specific safety requirements.
  • Ensure all commissioning records, project documentation, and system deliverables are organized, complete, and maintained within designated software tools.
  • Support owner turnover activities by verifying operational readiness, documentation completion, and successful project closeout.

 

Skill Set

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience supporting commissioning activities, system startup, or field operations for complex building infrastructure.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience supervising field teams, coordinating onsite activities, or leading day-to-day project execution.
  • Experience supporting data centers or comparable mission critical facilities including healthcare, semiconductor, pharmaceutical, or advanced manufacturing environments.
  • Hands-on experience executing Levels 1 through 5 commissioning and Integrated Systems Testing.
  • Strong working knowledge of electrical and mechanical building infrastructure including switchgear, generators, UPS systems, ATS equipment, PDUs, chillers, CRAC and CRAH units, pumps, and cooling distribution systems.
  • Strong commitment to maintaining safe work practices, regulatory compliance, and a proactive safety culture in the field.
  • Experience utilizing Procore and digital commissioning platforms.
  • Strong leadership, communication, coordination, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Willingness to work onsite with the flexibility to support changing project schedules and key project milestones as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Industry recognized commissioning certification such as CxA, ACG, AABC, or NEBB.
  • Electrical or mechanical trade license, journeyman certification, or equivalent technical credentials.
  • Previous experience supporting owner's representative or independent commissioning services.
  • Experience supporting the delivery of large-scale, high-performance infrastructure projects is preferred.
  • Experience coordinating complex system validation, performance verification, and operational readiness activities.
