Senior Mechanical Engineer – Data Centers
Location: On-site in Columbus, OH
Our client is seeking an accomplished mechanical engineering professional to help shape reliable, high-performance infrastructure for demanding data center and mission-critical environments. This is a hands-on technical leadership opportunity for an engineer who enjoys owning complex projects, solving challenging HVAC problems, and staying connected to construction through implementation. The successful candidate will have meaningful influence over mechanical design decisions, project execution, and the development of engineering teams while working on facilities where cooling performance, resiliency, and uptime are essential. Focus:
- Lead mechanical design for mission-critical and data center projects from early concepts through construction support and final delivery.
- Design commercial and industrial HVAC systems, including chilled-water systems, rooftop equipment, hydronic piping, ductwork, and air distribution.
- Develop load calculations, equipment selections, drawings, specifications, and bid-ready design packages for complex mechanical systems.
- Collaborate with owners, contractors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams to resolve technical challenges and coordinate project requirements.
- Provide on-site construction support, including installation reviews, project meetings, change evaluation, and field coordination.
- Manage multiple projects while maintaining alignment with scope, schedule, budget, design quality, and client expectations.
- Mentor engineers and designers, perform technical reviews, and promote high standards for accuracy, constructability, and engineering performance.
- Prepare project estimates and proposals while applying relevant mechanical and building standards and utilizing tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, Microsoft Project, and Trane Tracer.
Skill Set:
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) required.
- 10 or more years of consulting engineering or HVAC construction experience, including substantial commercial or industrial HVAC system design responsibilities.
- Hands-on design background with chillers, rooftop units, piping networks, and ductwork required.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, and Trane Tracer required.
- Working knowledge of applicable HVAC, fire protection, plumbing, and building codes and standards, including ASHRAE and NFPA guidance.
- Experience supporting mission-critical or data center mechanical infrastructure is strongly valued.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple engineering and construction priorities while maintaining attention to schedule, budget, and design quality.
- Strong communication and problem-solving capabilities, particularly when working directly with owners, contractors, and technical project teams.
- A PE license and active NCEES record are preferred.
