Head of Special Situations Research

An established investment research organization is seeking a highly accomplished investment professional to lead a premier special situations research platform serving sophisticated institutional investors. The successful leader will combine deep fundamental research expertise with outstanding communication skills, advanced financial modeling capabilities, and a passion for uncovering differentiated investment opportunities. What You Will Do

• Develop and lead the firm's special situations research strategy while maintaining exceptionally high analytical standards.
• Generate differentiated investment opportunities across a wide range of event driven situations and corporate catalysts.
• Produce institutional caliber research supported by rigorous financial analysis, valuation work, and independent investment judgment.
• Build detailed financial models that evaluate business fundamentals, transaction outcomes, and valuation scenarios.
• Guide research initiatives from initial concept through publication while maintaining consistency, quality, and intellectual rigor.
• Coach, mentor, and develop junior investment professionals, creating a collaborative and high performing research environment.
• Leverage primary research techniques, including industry outreach, management discussions, channel research, and expert interviews to strengthen investment conclusions.
• Incorporate AI enabled research tools and modern analytical technologies to improve research productivity while preserving independent analysis.
• Present investment recommendations through written publications, client meetings, conference calls, webinars, and presentations.
• Develop trusted relationships with institutional investors by communicating complex investment opportunities with clarity and conviction.
• Contribute to the long-term growth of the research platform through new idea generation, product development, and strategic initiatives.

Required Qualifications

• 8 to 10 or more years producing institutional quality investment research.
• Extensive experience researching special situations, event driven investments, or comparable fundamental equity strategies.
• Exceptional financial modeling, valuation, and fundamental research capabilities.
• Demonstrated ability to generate original investment ideas supported by independent analysis.
• Experience communicating directly with institutional investment professionals and sophisticated market participants.
• Strong leadership experience with the ability to mentor, develop, and guide research professionals.
• Comfort using AI assisted research tools alongside traditional investment research methodologies.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with the ability to simplify complex investment concepts.
• High intellectual curiosity, sound judgment, attention to detail, and an entrepreneurial approach to research.

Preferred Background

• Experience working within an investment research firm, hedge fund, asset manager, family office, or other institutional investment organization.
• Knowledge of corporate restructurings, mergers and acquisitions, spin-offs, recapitalizations, or other complex corporate events.
• Established credibility within the institutional investment community.
