MEP Superintendent – Data Center

Location: Remote / Nationwide

Our client, a nationally recognized and highly respected general contractor, is seeking an experienced MEP Superintendent to support mission-critical data center projects across the U.S. This role plays a pivotal part in the oversight and execution of complex MEP systems, with a strong focus on electrical safety and commissioning standards. The selected candidate will lead on-site energy isolation and commissioning activities for high-risk systems and contribute to world-class construction outcomes for enterprise-scale infrastructure builds.

This is a chance to be part of a thriving firm with an outstanding safety culture, high-profile clients, and industry-leading construction methodologies. They pride themselves on integrity, collaboration, and a relentless commitment to excellence. If you're passionate about technical leadership, safety-first operations, and hands-on commissioning, this is the role for you.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the on-site lead for commissioning and energy isolation throughout project life cycles, including pre-energization, turnover, and final delivery.
  • Oversee access control and permitting for electrical rooms, ensuring all stakeholders follow protocol.
  • Champion safe work practices during lockout/tagout (LOTO) and energization activities, enforcing strict adherence to industry and client safety standards.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) on energy isolation strategies and commissioning protocols for large-scale data center infrastructure.
  • Review commissioning plans, inspect equipment prior to energization, and validate documentation and quality reports.
  • Coordinate with project management and subcontractors to ensure safe implementation of electrical systems and proper LOTO execution.
  • Support and guide project teams in daily and weekly job hazard analysis (JHA) and high-risk activity (HRA) meetings.
  • Audit site practices for safety compliance and continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Interpret electrical drawings and one-line diagrams to validate isolation and redundancy plans.
  • Act as an independent authority capable of halting any unsafe work practices related to energy isolation.

Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or related field, or equivalent field experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in commercial construction with a strong MEP focus, preferably on data center projects.
  • Requires a minimum of 4 years of experience overseeing energy management, commissioning processes, or safety initiatives.
  • Deep knowledge of NFPA 70E and high-voltage electrical safety practices.
  • Experience with AC/DC systems and understanding of electrical infrastructure, controls, and commissioning.
  • Proven ability to audit energy isolation procedures and drive process improvements.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of translating technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Familiarity with multiple energy sources, including redundant electrical systems common to mission-critical environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in hyperscale or co-location data center construction environments.
  • Certification or training related to electrical safety or commissioning.
  • Ability to travel to project sites nationwide as needed.

Benefits:

This role offers a competitive compensation package including medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) with company match, paid time off, short- and long-term disability, life insurance, and more.
