Senior Design Engineer – Power Electronics, AC/DC Converters

Our client is looking for an experienced engineering professional to contribute to the design and advancement of sophisticated power conversion systems and emerging electrical technologies. This is a true hands-on design opportunity for an engineer who wants deep technical ownership, challenging converter problems, and direct involvement from early architecture through production. Focus:

• Drive power conversion projects from early technical definition and analytical evaluation through physical build, performance verification, and final preparation for manufacturing.
• Design and analyze high-frequency AC/DC and DC/DC power conversion circuitry, selecting appropriate topologies, controls, and components for demanding performance targets.
• Develop magnetic solutions and solve challenges involving switching behavior, efficiency, stability, thermal performance, and power density.
• Apply simulation and analytical methods to evaluate circuits, validate design decisions, and resolve complex electrical performance issues.
• Drive PCB and layout decisions with careful attention to high-frequency behavior, signal integrity, noise, EMC, and overall converter performance.
• Translate product needs into clear engineering specifications, maintain records of key design choices, and develop methods for confirming performance and functionality.
• Work closely with engineering and manufacturing partners to troubleshoot hardware, refine designs, and transition products into production.
• Take an active role in early hardware development, supporting initial builds, performance testing, technical troubleshooting, and ongoing design refinement.

Skill Set:

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering required, with a master’s degree in electrical engineering preferred.
• 5+ years of post-degree industry experience directly designing power electronics, power supplies, or converter products.
• Practical engineering background developing and working directly with power conversion hardware, including regulated power architectures, switching systems, and related electrical technologies.
• Proven ownership of power supply or converter designs, including making key engineering decisions rather than primarily supporting applications, testing, installation, integration, or evaluation activities.
• Strong technical depth in high-frequency magnetics, power-stage design and analysis, circuit simulation, PCB/layout practices, feedback and control, EMC, and component selection.
• Strong mathematical and analytical foundation with the ability to model, diagnose, and explain complex electrical behavior.
• Strong technical communication skills with the ability to clearly explain engineering approaches and demonstrate a thorough understanding of power conversion concepts during detailed technical discussions.
