Advanced Packaging Engineer – Consumer Products

Location: On-site in Somerset, NJ

The Advanced Packaging Engineer Consumer Products will play a central role in developing device-oriented consumer products and the packaging systems that support them. This individual will work across concept creation, design refinement, prototyping, testing, manufacturability, and supplier coordination. Success in this role requires a strong mechanical engineering foundation, experience with regulated or technically complex consumer products, and the ability to move programs forward in a fast-paced onsite setting.

Focus

• Lead mechanical development for consumer products from concept through launch readiness
• Create innovative packaging and product concepts for heated, rechargeable, and electric-powered devices, emphasizing reliability, consumer safety, and overall functionality.
• Assist with product and packaging development activities, including concept refinement, testing, and design evaluation.
• Partner with suppliers and manufacturing teams to improve tooling, assembly methods, and production readiness
• Define verification plans covering shipping durability, thermal behavior, liquid compatibility, and compliance needs
• Translate product goals, industrial design direction, and technical requirements into manufacturable solutions
• Assess materials, components, and external partner capabilities to improve quality, reduce risk, and manage cost
• Support pilot builds, line trials, and root-cause investigations tied to product or packaging performance
• Document specifications, tolerances, and validation results to support scale-up and execution
• Recommend process and design enhancements that support operational effectiveness, product quality, and overall cost optimization.

Skill Set

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, packaging engineering, or a related technical discipline
• At least 5 years of experience supporting consumer product design, engineering, packaging, or product innovation initiatives.
• Hands-on experience with CAD tools, ideally SolidWorks, along with prototyping and design iteration
• Background with battery-powered, heated, plug-in, liquid-handling, or otherwise regulated product categories
• Working knowledge of test methods, design validation, and applicable quality or compliance standards
• Skilled at coordinating concurrent initiatives while collaborating with cross-functional groups, external partners, and operational stakeholders.
• Strong judgment in root-cause analysis, risk reduction, and design-for-manufacture decisions
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, along with a collaborative and organized work style

Preferred Background

• Experience supporting consumer devices or adjacent electromechanical products
• Exposure to supplier qualification, pilot production, and scale-up environments
• Familiarity with products involving liquids, heat, hazardous components, or transportation challenges
• Experience operating successfully in a highly cross-functional, onsite development setting
