Mechanical Design Engineer

Hybrid, Cincinnati, OH

Our client is a respected consulting engineering organization expanding its impact across complex building environments. They are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer who wants to help shape high performance facilities, partner with experienced multidisciplinary teams, and contribute to projects that improve how people learn, heal, and work. This is a strong opportunity for an engineer who enjoys technical ownership, collaborative problem solving, and visible career growth in a flexible hybrid setting. The role is based on a senior level mechanical engineering position in the built environment, with project design, documentation, field support, and mentoring responsibilities.

What You Will Do

  • Shape HVAC and building systems concepts for institutional and complex commercial projects from early planning through construction documentation.
  • Produce calculations, layouts, and equipment selections for airside, hydronic, and related mechanical systems.
  • Coordinate with architects, electrical engineers, and project stakeholders to keep design intent, budget, and schedule aligned.
  • Prepare narratives, specifications, and technical documentation that translate design decisions into buildable project packages.
  • Review shop drawings, submittals, and field conditions to support accurate installation and project execution.
  • Contribute to site visits, existing condition reviews, and construction phase support as questions arise in the field.
  • Mentor junior design staff, share practical engineering guidance, and help elevate team delivery standards.
  • Support sustainable, maintainable facility solutions with an eye toward long term performance and owner goals.

What You Will Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field, ideally from an ABET accredited program.
  • Around 6–9 years of experience designing building mechanical systems or handling similar project-based engineering work.
  • Working knowledge of engineering calculations, mechanical layouts, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Comfort collaborating across disciplines and communicating with both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
  • FE preferred, PE path strongly valued.
  • Ability to balance independent execution with team-based project delivery.
  • Willingness to perform occasional site visits and field coordination work.
