MEP Cooling Architect
Location: Remote, Nationwide
An innovative digital infrastructure developer is building high density AI factory environments designed to power advanced machine learning and GPU driven workloads at scale. They are seeking an MEP Cooling Architect who can design resilient, high performance cooling systems that ensure compute is never limited by thermal instability.
This is not traditional data center HVAC. These environments operate at extreme rack densities exceeding 200 kW per rack, where synchronized AI training loads create rapid thermal swings and zero margin for instability. This role will define and lead the cooling architecture strategy across modular AI POD deployments nationwide, ensuring predictable performance, concurrent maintainability, and scalable multi-POD expansion.

Key Responsibilities
- Architect rack level direct to chip liquid cooling systems supporting 200 kW plus GPU racks
- Define supply and return temperature strategies, realistic delta T targets, and hydronic stability parameters
- Design chilled water plants including pump strategies, expansion systems, pressurization schemes, and cooling tower integration
- Validate CDU flow ranges, pressure envelopes, and facility loop integration
- Model thermal storage strategies that bridge utility loss and generator startup events
- Ensure cooling systems meet Tier 3 equivalent concurrent maintainability standards
- Identify and mitigate hydraulic instability risks before production deployment
- Develop condensation prevention strategies and dew point control frameworks
- Evaluate and compare emerging cooling approaches including warm water systems, rear door heat exchangers, immersion cooling, and future high density rack envelopes
- Design multi POD deployments that avoid cross POD thermal coupling
- Develop operating procedures for steady state, maintenance, failure events, and seasonal transitions
- Lead commissioning efforts and validate sustained performance under real GPU load conditions
- Produce clear piping and instrumentation diagrams, redundancy models, and failure scenario documentation
- Mentor site MEP teams on cooling behavior, troubleshooting, and safe operational practices
Required Qualifications
- Ten or more years of experience designing data center or mission critical cooling systems
- Hands on experience with liquid cooling for high density compute environments
- Proven background designing chilled water systems in high power density applications
- Strong foundation in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and hydraulic modeling
- Experience with cooling towers, economizers, and VFD driven pump systems
- Commissioning and troubleshooting experience under sustained high load conditions
- Exposure to AI, HPC, or large-scale GPU training environments
- Experience integrating CDU systems into facility loops
- Experience designing concurrently maintainable or Tier 3 equivalent cooling architectures
- Background in modular or containerized data center deployments
- Familiarity with industry liquid cooling guidelines and best practices
- Experience supporting MW scale modular infrastructure rollouts
