Principal Mechanical Engineer - Aerospace

A leading aerospace component engineering and MRO organization is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join their innovative and highly collaborative engineering team. Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Lead and contribute to high-impact engineering projects across a variety of ATA chapters including landing gear, hydraulics, and structural components.
  • Drive the creation and approval of PMA parts, new repair specifications, and MRO capabilities in compliance with FAA regulations.
  • Serve as a senior technical expert and coach, providing guidance and expertise to junior engineers while setting a high standard through hands-on leadership.
  • Oversee full lifecycle of projects from concept through FAA approval and implementation.
  • Interface directly with internal cross-functional teams and external customers to align technical solutions with business goals.
  • Leverage hands-on mechanical aptitude to design, evaluate, and troubleshoot components and systems.
  • Utilize 2D/3D CAD software for engineering analysis, free body diagramming, and structural load path definition.
  • Author technical documentation including repair processes, analysis reports, and compliance packages.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor on engineering matters with visibility and influence at the executive level.

 

 

Skills & Experience Required:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • 10+ years of engineering experience within an MRO, OEM, or commercial aviation environment.
  • Deep understanding of FAA regulatory compliance and certification pathways.
  • Strong technical background in materials, component repair design, and stress analysis.
  • Expertise in CAD software (2D & 3D), technical writing, and documentation.
  • Proven ability to manage and execute multiple technical projects on time and within budget.
  • Exceptional communication skills and experience working cross-functionally.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Master’s degree in engineering or related field.
  • FAA Designated Engineering Representative (DER) or similar certification.
  • Experience in small team environments with a high degree of individual autonomy.
  • Demonstrated leadership in process improvement and capability expansion initiatives.
